Inner City Solutions has been retained by the Forestry Commission and NWDA to source funding for a new community forest in the north of Manchester.
The Moston Brook site, which extends to over 70 hectares, is located on the Manchester and Oldham boundary and is low-quality, previously developed land which offers little in the way of amenity.
However the local area is currently experiencing sustained investment with the development of a new urban business park, the extension of the Metrolink system and the renewal of neighbouring green space at Moston Vale. To complement such activity, the Moston Brook site is looking to be transformed to link directly with Moston Vale and the wider Irk Valley to create a network of open space, woodland, green corridors, trees and opens countryside that will actively encourage and promote sustainable communities and a suitable environment.
With this, the community forest will play a strategic role in promoting economic success, a high quality of life and minimise the impact and fear of crime on the local economy. The Forestry Commission has a strong track record in delivering similar community forestry projects and Inner City Solutions is working actively with both the Commission and the Agency to secure funding for the project as part of Newlands 2 - the Northwest's land regeneration programme.
