Background

The provision of suitable premises to accommodate fledging businesses is an important factor in driving economies, particularly given the sector's propensity to employ locally. Inner City Solutions was commissioned by Manchester Enterprises to undertake a study of supply and demand of managed workspace in the Greater Manchester sub-region.

Role

Based on a robust assessment of the property market and business formation rates, the study informs the development of an investment framework to guide future investment strategies across the ten boroughs. This task involves:

  • Defining the key ingredients of managed workspace in the sub-regional context
  • An assessment of the supply and demand across the ten districts
  • The compilation of an Investment Framework which will guide future intervention by the public sector

The study provides clarity as to how managed workspace should be procured, the scale and type of developments involved and their economic impact. Crucially, it defines a clear economic development focused approach to managed workspace across the whole sub-region.

This project is funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
